The romantic relationship between Luke Cafferty and Becky Sproles began in the fourth season of the Friday Night Light's television series. Luke was instantly interested in Becky the moment he saw her. Becky didn't even know who Luke was until she ran into him randomly at a gas station one day when she was attempting to buy beer.

Season 4[]
Initially, Becky is an overeager girl with a crush on Tim Riggins. Luke sees Becky standing next to the football field one day at practice and expresses to Tim that he finds her attractive, which Tim passes on to an uninterested Becky. One night Becky is upset and goes to buy beer at a gas station. When she is denied, Luke appears and buys the beers for her, presenting the cashier with his own fake ID. Becky thanks him, and he asks her if she would like to go through the car wash with her. She accepts and loses her virginity to him that evening.
At school, Luke approaches Becky with candy and tries to have a conversation with her. She brushes him off and makes it clear that she doesn't have feelings for him, instead letting him know that he doesn't need to speak to her and the event was a one time thing. Luke is obviously upset, although he respects her wishes.
The situation changes when Becky learns that she's pregnant and the child is Luke's. When she tells Luke, he is surprised but supportive of her, accepting her decision to get an abortion despite his apprehension. She struggles with her choice and Luke sticks by her side, offering her comfort. In the end, Becky goes through with the abortion.
Season 5[]
It seems as though Luke's crush on Becky still exists, as he is often watching her and looks disappointed when Becky doesn't receive his number after she picks her rally girl jersey. Luke becomes extremely drunk at a party and Becky finds him a ride home, taking him to his doorstep. Here he tells Becky that he traded his toDallas Tinker in exchange for having Becky as his rally girl. He asks Becky to come inside, but she kindly turns him down.
At a school dance, Luke tells Becky that she knows he likes him and that he plans to take her out. Becky appears happy about this.
Mindy Collette senses that Becky and Luke like one another and tells the two of them that they need to work out their problems and sleep together. Luke continues to flirt and be kind to Becky, much to the disapproval of Billy Riggins, who tells Luke that the way to get a girl to like him is to be rude. This leads Luke to treat Becky poorly. She doesn't appreciate this, and confronts him after a game, when he informs her that he was just listening to Billy and that he really likes Becky. The two share a kiss.
Becky can't bring herself to have sex with Luke because she still has the abortion on her mind. She keeps Luke at an arms length, and he tells her that when she's ready he'll be waiting. She leaves Luke a note telling him she'd like to fully start over, so that's what they do.
