Whitney was born in Staunton, Virginia to a single mother who worked in broadcasting. When Whitney was 5 years old, her mother married her high school sweetheart, a veteran who moved the family to Anchorage, Alaska. Whitney showed an interest in basketball and was proven to be talented in the sport as by the age of 14, she was already catching the interest of Division I colleges. Whitney attended East Anchorage High School and played basketball for the school, and in turn recruitments from schools such as USC, Princeton, Brown, Oregon State, and Nebraska. Eventually she settled on attending college at Rice University in Houston where she received her Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.
